Listed below are just some of the opportunities available.
Help out with basic administration duties for one of our research projects such as filing, photocopying and database entries. The shifts can suit your needs but the office operates from Monday to Friday.
Bucket Collections and Bag Packing
Volunteer to help out on a as and when basis for both bucket collections and bag packing in places such as football grounds, supermarkets and town centres. You will need to be able to stand for 2 to 3 hour shifts and willing to hold collection buckets of pack shopping into bags in supermarkets.
Collection Box Volunteer
Volunteer to be responsible for a number of collection boxes in your local area. This would involve sourcing a site to place a box (e.g a pub or local shop) and regularly collecting, replacing and returning any full ones to the centre! No money handling would be involved as the collection boxes are brought back to the centre sealed ready for the Prevent Breast Cancer staff to count.
Volunteer to work in our centre Coffee Shop, serving a variety of drinks, sandwiches and confectionery. Some food handling and working with hot water is involved as well as money handling but full training is provided. Our coffee shop volunteers run in two shifts 09.15 to 13.00 and 13.00 to 16.00. Basic food handling skills are required.
Community Event Volunteers
Volunteer to help out at our community events. This could be helping to great event attendees or attending an event as a representative of Prevent Breast Cancer to accept a cheque or say a few words on the charity’s behalf. Full training is provided.
Event Publicity Volunteer
Volunteer to help out with the distribution of posters, flyers etc. to help promote our major events. This may involve going into large businesses or communities and distributing literature. You would need the use of a car for this role and be willing to pick the literature up from the centre.
Volunteer to help maintain the various gardens we have around the centre. The hours can suit your needs but the centre is open on a Monday to Friday basis. Some basic gardening experience is preferred.
Merchandise Stall Holder
Volunteer to assist the charity by running a stall at an event on our behalf with leaflets and merchandise. You would need to have the use of a car and be able to pick up any relevant merchandise from the centre, returning any unused or unsold items afterwards. If you would like to undertake this role but are unable to set up a stall, please do still contact us as we typically need more than one volunteer at most events.
Volunteer meet and greet patients and visitors to The Nightingale Centre. The desk operates Monday to Friday 09.00 to 16.00. Our welcome desk volunteers run in two shifts 09.15 to 13.00 and 13.00 to 16.00. There is also a shop within the welcome desk holding Prevent Breast Cancer merchandise so some basic arithmetic skills are required for costing up purchases.
To become a volunteer you must be 16 years of age and undergo a health screening.
