Lester Barr
Co-Founder, Consultant Breast Surgeon and Honorary President of Prevent Breast Cancer, Lester Barr MBE, transformed the path of Breast Cancer diagnoses. Since the very beginning of Prevent Breast Cancer, Lester has been at the forefront of the charity, driving forwards the success of early cancer diagnoses in women, screening, and actively researching preventions for breast cancer. His pioneering work takes place at The Nightingale Centre, which is Europe’s first purpose-built Breast Cancer Prevention Centre.
Lester has helped many incredible women with their battle against cancer, including remarkable women such as Roma Dos, Sarah Saphier and Britain’s longest-serving soap star Sally Dynevor to name a few.
Lester also plays an active role in sharing his expertise through more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and increasing public awareness of the facts about breast cancer and its lesser-known symptoms. This includes shedding light on the importance of screenings in women with a family history of breast cancer. In 2023, Lester spoke at TEDxWarrington on the topic of ‘Can we prevent breast cancer?’
