Lester Barr, chairman of Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, said: “Today’s announcement that two major British breast cancer charities – Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Campaign – are to merge can only be good news for the fight against this disease.
“Both charities have recently put increasing emphasis on prevention, which is helping to shine a spotlight on the importance of addressing the disease before it takes hold.
“Currently only 3.6 per cent of all cancer funding in the country is spent on prevention. Genesis remains the only charity in the UK that is entirely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer. Working to increase the amount spent on preventing this disease will remain one of our principal aims.
“Hopefully, with increased support from the newly merged BCC and Breakthrough, we can increase this figure, allowing us to research and develop new ways of preventing breast cancer for the next generation.”
