Prevent Breast Cancer is the UK’s only charity dedicated entirely to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer.

Since 1996, we’ve supported pioneering research that has transformed our understanding of breast cancer risk and opened up new opportunities to prevent the disease before it develops.

While many organisations focus on treating breast cancer, our focus is on stopping it before it starts.

The Research Unit is the next chapter in that mission, building on decades of progress and giving researchers new opportunities to make the discoveries that will save lives.

The Research Unit will continue to grow by adding new research data, imaging studies and biological samples, while developing advanced artificial intelligence tools to improve breast cancer risk prediction.

Alongside this, it will support future clinical studies, helping discoveries move from the laboratory into NHS practice.

Our ambition is not only to accelerate Prevent Breast Cancer’s own research, but to create a globally recognised prevention research resource that supports scientists around the world.

At the Prevent Breast Cancer Research Unit, we are uncovering the biology underlying breast cancer risk factors to identify the mechanisms that drive tumour development and translate these discoveries into effective prevention strategies. Through innovative research and close collaboration between scientists and clinicians, we are pioneering new approaches to prevention and working towards a future where fewer people develop breast cancer.
