If your new year’s resolutions for 2020 were to push yourself, try something new or get involved with fundraising, there are so many ways that you can get stuck in and help to raise awareness and funds for Prevent Breast Cancer this year – here are just a few of the exciting challenges we have lined up in 2020…
Great Manchester Run
It’s time to dust off your running shoes and sign up for the Great Manchester Run 10k! It’s a hugely popular event, attracting thousands of spectators and participants every year and bringing out the best of our city. This year, it takes place on 24th May, so you’ve got plenty of time to get training! Still not convinced? We’re also hosting our Pink March for its fourth year, which sees our pink army take on the 10k as a march rather than a run! Still hard work but you’ll have all the support of your fellow pink cadets!
Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100
Following Prevent Breast Cancer’s hugely successful debut as the official Charity of the Year for the RideLondon-Surrey 46 2019, we’re taking part for a second time in 2020! Join thousands of other cyclists for the UK’s most exciting cycling challenge, racing through the traffic-free streets of the capital and around the Surrey countryside, before finishing at The Mall in central London. When you sign up, you’ll have the full support of our dedicated fundraising team as well as regular training rides with your fellow cyclists – join us and #pedaltoprevent!
Vienna to Budapest cycling challenge
If cycling 100 miles in one day isn’t for you, how does 230 miles over four days sound? The challenge will see our team starting their journey in Austria, following the Danube through Slovakia before finishing at one of Budapest’s famous thermal baths. It promises to be a breath-taking ride that’s perfect for intermediate cyclists, so if you’d like to fundraise for Prevent Breast Cancer whilst taking in some stunning scenery, this could be the challenge for you!
Seville to Malaga cycling challenge
In case you couldn’t tell, we love a cycling challenge! We’ll be embarking on an Andalusian adventure in 2020, cycling 220 miles over three days. Starting in Seville, the journey will take you through charming Spanish villages and the stunning scenery of its national parks. It’s slightly more challenging than the Vienna to Budapest ride, making it a particularly good option for more experienced cyclists.
Camino de Santiago 100km Trek
Join Prevent Breast Cancer on our first ever Camino de Santiago trek as we take on the last 100km of the iconic trail. It’s a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, a UNESCO World Heritage city, where the apostle Saint James the Great is said to be buried in its cathedral.
Starting in the coastal city of Vigo, the trail goes through the historic Spanish countryside of the Galicia region before reaching Santiago de Compostela. The mix of flat and undulating terrain makes it perfect for trekking novices and seasoned walkers alike, and as it’s an unguided route, you can set your own pace – it promises to be an incredible challenge.
Everest Base Camp Trek
Fancy pushing yourself even harder? Join us for the ultimate challenge – climbing over 5,554m to Everest Base Camp! Our intrepid trekkers from last year’s climb told us they created memories and friends that will last a lifetime and that it was one of the best things they’ve ever done, raising an incredible £120,777 for Prevent Breast Cancer in the process, so we’re doing it all over again. We offer our full support to everyone who signs up, hosting regular training walks to ensure that you’re as ready as you can be to take on the world’s largest mountain.
Outdoor challenges not for you? Not to worry – from our annual Zumbathon to the Lymm Pink Night Out, there are plenty of ways that you can support us that don’t involve climbing a mountain! Our ever-popular Paint Your Town Pink campaign – where local businesses and individuals come together to host pink-themed events and activities – returns on 8th March 2020 for Paint Altrincham Pink. If you’d also like to turn your town pink, we can help you set it up. We regularly update our social channels with our exciting fundraisers, so keep an eye out for what’s on.
Without the support, enthusiasm and passion of the people that fundraise for our charity, we simply couldn’t exist, so this year, help us get one step closer to a future free of breast cancer.
