I am Ailsa, a local wedding and portrait photographer. I was introduced to Prevent Breast Cancer (formerly known as Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention) when my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. Soon after I went for a family risk assessment and was found to have a higher than usual risk for cancer, I now have annual mammograms as a result.

I think the emphasis on prevention is so important – It encourages people to take control of their lives and fosters hope.

I love telling peoples stories through photographs and I’m looking forward to documenting events and supporters journeys, and in turn, raising awareness and supporting the vital work that Prevent Breast Cancer do.

100_1532When BCL Office Moving moved Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention and the Nightingale Centre from Withington Hospital to Wythenshawe Hospital in 2007, BCL Managing Director Rod Seeland and stepson Mike Bellis were both hands-on with the move. They had no way of knowing how important Genesis [Now Prevent Breast Cancer] would become to their family.

In 2010, Rod’s sister-in-law Tracy Thornley wasdiagnosed with breast cancer. It was in remission until December 2012, when the devastating news arrived that it had spread to her spine, pelvis and femur.

Rod and his wife Ange felt moved to do something, and decided to run the 2013 Bupa Great Manchester Run to raise money for Prevent Breast Cancer. At the same time, BCL’s parent company, John Bradshaw & Son, were looking for a charity they could support and assist.

With their personal and professional ties to the charity, it was an easy choice to select Genesis as the chosen charity for the company. John Bradshaw & Son have two businesses: BCL Office Moving and Britannia Bradshaw International Removals & Storage. BCL Office Moving is a commercial removals and archive storage company with offices in Manchester, Birmingham and London.

Britannia Bradshaw International Removals & Storage is a household removals company with offices in Manchester and Birmingham. As removal companies, there are BCL and Britannia Bradshaw trucks on the road every day in towns and cities throughout the UK, as well as in Europe. So it was fantastic news to hear that they would be painting a van from each brand in Genesis pink! These trucks have the Genesis logo, website and JustGiving information on them, along with the corporate branding, helping to raise awareness of the charity up and down the UK, and beyond.

Mike Andrews, Managing Director of John Bradshaw & Son explained why the company chose such a public and long-term commitment to Prevent Breast Cancer: “It is easy to say we support a charity and simply donate money from time to time. We’ve always raised money for various charities, but we wanted our staff to feel they’re a part of something important and that we’re doing more than simply looking at profits. With 1 in 10 women affected by breast cancer, everyone will be touched by it at some point in their lives. We’re hoping our partnership with Genesis [now Prevent Breast Cancer] will help make a difference in reducing that number. “

Rod Seeland, Managing Director of BCL says about the partnership: “It is an honour to be able to assist Genesis [now Prevent Breast Cancer] by getting their name out in front of the public and raise awareness for the great work being done.”

So please look out for the two large Pink Genesis Removal trucks, which are driving around the country now!

The very heart of Chapeau Events philosophy is personal achievement! Whether fundraising for a particular goal; discovering your inner excitement; fulfilling your desire to explore in the saddle; see countries; experience cultures; or simply embarking on an adventure you are completely novice to.

At Chapeau Events, we know what makes the hardened cyclist tick when it comes to the beloved outdoor pursuit. It’s a desire shared by many others; a yearning to jump on that saddle and lose oneself in amazing memories; to visit new places and come home with a real sense of what they’re about; or to sample new cultures and make life time friends.

For the novice cyclists, it’s a decision to set charitable or personal wellbeing targets and become exhilarated as you, not only achieve them, but surpass them. To truly surprise yourself as you exceed your own expectations, whether finishing the distance, conquering the highest hill, or just simply meandering along and taking it all in. In fact, Chapeau Events strives to provide the ultimate beneficial experience for everyone one involved whatever your level.

The company started in 2015 when David Wright came up with the idea, after family and friends convinced him how fantastic the charitable cycle rides, he had previously organised over the last five years had been.

Dave first embarked on this journey as a personal goal to raise awareness and give thanks for the life changing help his wife endured, through organ donation. This quickly turned into an ever increasing passion to cycle to places all over Europe, inviting family and friends to join him. Five years on…It was time to let others share in those experiences.

Chapeau Events is passionate about the benefits that cycling challenges can bring, from fulfilling your personal ambitions, to the health and wellbeing of taking part; or simply through the excitement of a challenge adventure. We want you to have your own unique experience on our events to allow yourself to reach the limits of your expectations. This is why we personally ride every inch of all our routes. We select all the hotels for your comfort and relaxation after long days and we ensure all your meals provide you with the correct sustenance to keep you energised. We even offer you alternative routes on our rides to rubberstamp that unique experience!

All our crew have a passion for outdoor pursuits, travel and adventure, and between us we’ve notched up experience that spans many countries worldwide. That’s not all. In their former lives, our crew have been expert enthusiasts from cycle racers and bike gurus to hardened trekkers and mountain skiers… so, no-one is better placed to create events that appeal to a wide range of interests.

The phenomenal care in putting all the details in place really shows through our extensive planning, research, fact-finding and training…all a sign of our commitment to providing an event where your enjoyment, value for money and safety come first. It’s a telling reason why our customers return to us and it’s no exaggeration to say that our events crew can make a world of difference to the enjoyment of your holiday – so we choose them carefully.

Mediacom is a Content and Connections Agency who in 2016, helped Prevent Breast Cancer improve all aspects of our digital presence, And all pro-bono!

Prevent Breast Cancer are so grateful to Mediacom for all their support and involvement with the charity. Our digital presence is truly thanks to them!

    They describe themselves as:

We believe that everything is connected. And that means a media agency has to think and operate in an entirely new way. So new that we don’t even call ourselves a media agency anymore. We call ourselves The Content + Connections Agency.

That’s our shorthand way of saying that we have a unique approach to planning and buying across paid, owned and earned media, which can optimise our clients’ entire system of content and connections – not just the individual channel silos within them.

For us, “content” is the fuel for high-performing communications systems. It refers to any form of consumer messaging that connects brands with their consumers. “Connections” is how we guide the content around the system. It’s about having a closed-loop distribution strategy, ensuring there are no dead ends or wastage.

We do this by taking a step back and seeing the bigger picture, designing the content with the connection in mind.

We call this Systems Thinking – and it’s proven to transform communications effectiveness.

Roberts Bakery have been long term supporters of Prevent Breast Cancer and we know we wouldn’t be where we are today without their help!

In 2015-16 they carried dedicated pink packaging and messaging across five million wholemeal loaves and raised £50,000 to help fund our ground-breaking gene-based research. Click here to find out more.

Lindsay Occleston, a member of the Roberts family of bakers, tells us how they have been supporting the charity since 2010.

Roberts Bakery is a family business based in the heart of Cheshire since 1887. While we’re kept busy making delicious bread, rolls and bakery treats for the people of Cheshire and beyond, the staff are also committed to supporting good causes. In 2010, almost by accident, we happened to be introduced to Genesis and several of us said what a fantastic charity it would be to support. And from there a partnership was born!

Our first fundraising event was our inaugural charity ball in September 2011. The ball attracted 250 guests, with live entertainment and dancing into the small hours. We were delighted that this first attempt raised £23,000 for Genesis. It meant that Roberts Bakery was able to fund the first of a three year study into genetic variants and breast density, both of which are believed to be factors that can cause breast cancer.

So as 2012 loomed, the staff thought what shall we try this year?! This time we decided to participate in the Genesis Million Miles Challenge and get active to support the charity. After much deliberating, a group of us thought it would be a great idea to cycle from the bakery in Northwich to the base of Snowdon, then walk up the mountain to the summit (and the highest peak in England and Wales!) the following day. With the cycle and walk taking place in midsummer, the staff hoped the sun would be shining and the weather would be warm as we took on our challenge. How wrong we were! A team of 25 or so cyclists battled our way through harsh winds and constant rain to reach Snowdon and the following day, we were joined by another 20 hardy participants to walk 3500 feet into mist and driving rain.

Despite the weather, it was a weekend none of us will forget. We were absolutely over the moon to raise £15,000 for Genesis and privileged to see this money go towards the PROCAS Study.

    Roberts Bakery

In 2013, the Charity Challenge on behalf of Genesis took on various forms. Our adventurous cyclists were by no means been put off by the challenge of the previous years and in June 2013 we planned to cycle a large part of the Cheshire Ring circular canal route, starting and ending the event at our headquarters in Northwich. The event was a great success! As well as the bike ride, some staff members planned sky dives and Roberts Family Fun Days, all to raise money for Genesis.

Everyone at Roberts Bakery is very proud to have such strong links with Genesis, to continue working with them into the future and to have risen over £38,000 for an amazing cause. Our goal now is to raise £50,000 from the sale of our wholemeal loaves.

We all look forward to the day when breast cancer is consigned to history and knowing that we have played our part in helping make 1 in 10, none in 10.

Prevent Breast Cancer are so grateful to have the Lavender Tree as one of our Corporate Supporters who stock our Christmas Cards year on year. Here is their story:

The Lavender Tree is owned and managed by sisters Sarah and Emma, supported by their younger sister Cathryn and a team of close friends. Walk into their beautiful shop and you will always find someone happy to help and to offer a friendly, good old-fashioned personal service.

The story began more than twenty years ago when interiors stylist Sarah McCall added gifts and accessories to her freelance design portfolio. Her eye for timeless design and quality, alongside unique and original gifts soon lead to more commissions and the idea for The Lavender Tree began to emerge.

A few years later Sarah was joined by sister Emma Bolton and the dreams for The Lavender Tree evolved. Emma, who had worked in the fashion industry, brought her buying experience, her energy and love of fabrics, pattern and colour to the growing business.

Together they found the ideal base for their business – a lovely old Victorian shop, just a mile from the centre of Alderley Edge. Along with the gorgeous gifts, homewares and inspirational ideas that can be found in the shop itself, they have also established a successful interior design consultancy with an enviable reputation, available for both private and corporate clients.

You visit their website direct: http://www.thelavendertreeshop.com/
