BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH: HOW YOU HELPED US

October was Breast Cancer Awareness month, a worldwide campaign that aims to raise awareness and funds for research into the cause, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Every year we are bowled over by the amount of people who gather their friends, families and colleagues to raise awareness and vital funds for Prevent Breast Cancer. Here’s just a taste of some of the amazing events held for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this year.

We kicked things off with a family history study day at Wythenshawe Hospital on 5th October, a day dedicated to breast cancer family history, including talks on gene testing and medical and surgical preventative strategies.

The Paint Your Town campaign showed its continued success with Gatley, Rainford and Cheadle Royal Business Park all transforming into a sea of pink and packing the calendar with pink themed activities.

Gatley fully embraced the theme; Italian restaurant Piccolo threw a Pink Party, the Horse & Farrier held a charity quiz, and there was a 5k Pink Walk to encourage local people to put on their trainers in aid of Prevent Breast Cancer. Over in Rainford there was a delightful Afternoon Tea in the Village Hall, and again their annual scarecrow competition proved very hard to judge! Cheadle Royal Business Park had an amazing Halloween Fun Run which was enjoyed by the many local, businesses and also the kids at Kids Allowed.

Private banking firm Arbuthnot Latham and law firm Slater Heelis joined forces for a sophisticated soiree, enjoying an evening of gin tasting and jazz at Manchester Hall, whilst a 16-strong team from law firm Turner Parkinson took to their static bikes to cycle a whopping 222 miles to raise money.

Our ever-popular Bake-a-Boob cake sale returned and raised over £3000 – now that’s a lot of boob cakes, biscuits and brownies! Thank you so much to all the friends, families and colleagues that supported these sales across the country and to those that put on their best pink clothes to raise extra awareness on the day.

Sam Morris held her ninth Think Pink & Sparkle event, a charity evening boasting a disco, auction and raffle, with local businesses and supporters donating generous raffle prizes including pamper sessions, perfume, gift vouchers and afternoon tea.

Other fundraisers included bucket collections, a talk for Cheshire WI members and the first ever Bad Mums Club Bake Off – these are just are few of the amazing events and fundraisers that our supporters held to raise funds and awareness for the charity. Thank you so much to everyone who took part – without your support and energy, our charity couldn’t exist. Every single penny raised will go directly to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, with the goal of creating a breast cancer-free future.
