On the 29th May 2022, Arun Srivastava took on RideLondon-Essex to raise vital funds for Prevent Breast Cancer. The 100-mile cycle is an iconic, but also extremely challenging ride. Arun was inspired to take on the feat following his wife’s breast cancer journey. In this blog, Arun discusses his motivations for hoping on the saddle for Prevent Breast Cancer

Arun’s Story

I have always enjoyed cycling and wanted to make sure that I channelled my fitness efforts towards a good cause. My wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer twice and has been successfully treated. We obviously want to avoid this happening again and so support Prevent Breast Cancer’s efforts in this respect. Of course, we all have personal motivations and this issue is particularly important to me because of my wife however, preventing breast cancer is important for the community generally and is an excellent cause.

I strongly believe that prevention is just as important as a cure. The work that Prevent Breast Cancer does in research into the causes of breast cancer and in education is vital.

What does a breast cancer free future mean to you?

Being diagnosed with a serious illness understandably consumes your life. It is hard to forget but important to move on. Being with the family and appreciating simple things in life (blue skies, beautiful flowers and Below Deck Mediterranean) are enough to keep us very happy together. We don’t look back only forward.

If you have been inspired to take on a challenge for Prevent Breast Cancer, you can find all of our latest events here.
