    I am Ailsa, a local wedding and portrait photographer. I was introduced to Prevent Breast Cancer (formerly known as Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention) when my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. Soon after I went for a family risk assessment and was found to have a higher than usual risk for cancer, I now have annual mammograms as a result.

    I think the emphasis on prevention is so important – It encourages people to take control of their lives and fosters hope.

    I love telling peoples stories through photographs and I’m looking forward to documenting events and supporters journeys, and in turn, raising awareness and supporting the vital work that Prevent Breast Cancer do.

    In theory, we’re a wine business, but really, we’re a people business. Our wine is the product of our people.

    It’s taught us that it’s easy to make inexpensive wine. But it’s much more difficult to make good wine inexpensively. Yet this is what we pursue with passion. Because we all believe all people should be able to drink good wine.

    After speaking to the charity and reading all the information, I realised that the statistics of the disease are a lot worse than I knew. The work that Prevent Breast Cancer do helping those affected with their everyday lives is amazing and I wanted to help. Whilst the amount I could do was little it was still a little more help. If I could only raise enough for one person to have a scan then that is one person helped!

    As a business we do support a couple of charities already but this is one close to my heart, one that I personally wanted to help to continue to make changes to people’s lives.

    When BCL Office Moving moved the charity from Withington Hospital to Wythenshawe Hospital in 2007, BCL Managing Director Rod Seeland and stepson Mike Bellis were both hands-on with the move. They had no way of knowing how important Genesis as we were then would become to their family.

    In 2010, Rod’s sister-in-law Tracy Thornley was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was in remission until December 2012, when the devastating news arrived that it had spread to her spine, pelvis and femur.

    Rod and his wife Ange felt moved to do something, and decided to run the 2013 Bupa Great Manchester Run to raise money for Prevent Breast Cancer. At the same time, BCL’s parent company, John Bradshaw & Son, were looking for a charity they could support and assist.

    With their personal and professional ties to the charity, it was an easy choice to select Prevent Breast Cancer as the chosen charity for the company. John Bradshaw & Son have two businesses: BCL Office Moving and Britannia Bradshaw International Removals & Storage. BCL Office Moving is a commercial removals and archive storage company with offices in Manchester, Birmingham and London.

    Britannia Bradshaw International Removals & Storage is a household removals company with offices in Manchester and Birmingham. As removal companies, there are BCL and Britannia Bradshaw trucks on the road every day in towns and cities throughout the UK, as well as in Europe. So it was fantastic news to hear that they would be painting a van from each brand in PBC pink! These trucks have the Prevent Breast Cancer logo, website and JustGiving information on them, along with the corporate branding, helping to raise awareness of the charity up and down the UK, and beyond.

    Mike Andrews, Managing Director of John Bradshaw & Son explained why the company chose such a public and long-term commitment to Prevent Breast Cancer: “It is easy to say we support a charity and simply donate money from time to time. We’ve always raised money for various charities, but we wanted our staff to feel they’re a part of something important and that we’re doing more than simply looking at profits. With 1 in 10 women affected by breast cancer, everyone will be touched by it at some point in their lives. We’re hoping our partnership with Prevent Breast Cancer will help make a difference in reducing that number. “

    Charley Wood underwent a preventative double mastectomy at the young age of 26 after receiving the news that she had an 85% chance of developing breast cancer.

    Freshwalks, bringing together North West business folk in the great outdoors.

    Our mission is to reinvigorate both body and soul, allowing participants to make new contacts, share personal and business challenges and gain some fresh perspective. All within a magnificent setting that will allow clear thinking and new ideas to flourish.

    Freshwalks is delighted to support our friends at Prevent Breast Cancer by providing a dedicated training programme of walks ahead of the Everest Base Camp trek in November 2019.

    You are of course welcome on any of our walks but for the specified routes and dates below, we’ll be donating 50% of the ticket price back to the charity. We’ve carefully selected some routes that will gradually build up fitness to a goal of being able to take on full day hikes involving significant uphill walking.

    The John Lewis Partnership have been a huge supporter of Prevent Breast Cancer for many years.

    From many indoor miles that have been cycled within the London HQ office walls, to individual store activities, the staff at John Lewis really know how to fund raise and we are delighted that their efforts are helping us to create a breast cancer free future for the next generation.

    On a more local level, members of staff from our neighbouring stores in both Trafford and Cheadle have welcomed us into their stores and let us hold awareness tables, meaning we’ve been able to talk to their customers about why our charity exists. Cheadle also recently held a fashion show in aid of Prevent Breast Cancer, with Trafford holding their’s soon.

    Pixel Inspiration worked with Prevent Breast Cancer to produce a new digital campaign that launched our new name, new look and our aims for the future in 2016.

    Lindsay Occleston, a member of the Roberts family of bakers, tells us how they have been supporting the charity since 2010.

    Roberts Bakery is a family business based in the heart of Cheshire since 1887. While we’re kept busy making delicious bread, rolls and bakery treats for the people of Cheshire and beyond, the staff are also committed to supporting good causes. In 2010, almost by accident, we happened to be introduced to Prevent Breast Cancer and several of us said what a fantastic charity it would be to support. And from there a partnership was born!

    Our first fundraising event was our inaugural charity ball in September 2011. The ball attracted 250 guests, with live entertainment and dancing into the small hours. We were delighted that this first attempt raised £23,000 for Prevent Breast Cancer. It meant that Roberts Bakery was able to fund the first of a three year study into genetic variants and breast density, both of which are believed to be factors that can cause breast cancer.

    So as 2012 loomed, the staff thought what shall we try this year?! This time we decided to participate in the Million Miles Challenge and get active to support the charity. After much deliberating, a group of us thought it would be a great idea to cycle from the bakery in Northwich to the base of Snowdon, then walk up the mountain to the summit (and the highest peak in England and Wales!) the following day. With the cycle and walk taking place in midsummer, the staff hoped the sun would be shining and the weather would be warm as we took on our challenge. How wrong we were! A team of 25 or so cyclists battled our way through harsh winds and constant rain to reach Snowdon and the following day, we were joined by another 20 hardy participants to walk 3500 feet into mist and driving rain.

    Despite the weather, it was a weekend none of us will forget. We were absolutely over the moon to raise £15,000 for Prevent Breast Cancer and privileged to see this money go towards the PROCAS Study.

    Prevent Breast Cancer were Stagecoach Manchester’s official charity partner in 2016-2017, raising an amazing £21,000.00 in the process. From Drive-Thru cinemas, to drivers dressing up as Father Christmas, all staff really took the charity to heart.
